“Godless” malware affects 90% of Android devices

"Godless" a new mobile malware has been detected by Researchers at security intelligence blog Trend Micro . The Malware targets All Android Devices running 5.1 Lollipop and earlier Android versions i.e Approx 90% of the Android Devices .

Godless , after gaining root privilege remotely it can be controlled to silently install unwanted software on the affected device, or even to spy the user .

According to Trend Micro -

Based on the data gathered from our Trend Micro Mobile App Reputation Service, malicious apps related to this threat can be found in prominent app stores, including Google Play, and has affected over 850,000 devices worldwide.

Though the Malicious apps seems to have been removed from Google Play according to Trends Micro

We have also seen a large amount of clean apps on Google Play that has corresponding malicious versions – they share the same developer certificate – in the wild. The versions on Google Play do not have the malicious code. Thus, there is a potential risk that users with non-malicious apps will be upgraded to the malicious versions without them knowing about apps’ new malicious behavior. Note that updating apps outside of Google Play is a violation of the store’s terms and conditions.

If you are downloading apps from outside , make sure you have done a background check of the developer and the app . Downloading apps from Google Play seems much safer than outside apk's .

Seems , Android is getting prone to malware's . When the OS becomes too popular for public , then it becomes popular for hackers also !
