New Features Expected for Smartphones in 2019

New Features Expected for Smartphones in 2019
Every year the big smartphone manufacturers announce their new flagship phones. Usually, this means an upgrade in software and hardware that add new functionality or improves on existing technology. With the smartphone market becoming more competitive all the time, manufacturers are constantly seeking better and more innovative components to tempt customers away from their competitors. Next year’s features are as widely speculated as they are every year, but here are a few that might be in the phones of 2019.

Triple-Sensor Cameras

When cameras were first introduced into smartphones, they were basic with few features and a grainy resolution. They were certainly no match for the digital cameras of the time. However, the cameras have continued to be upgraded and improved to the point where many people now use their mobiles for capturing images, instead of taking a separate camera. The latest additions to smartphones have been dual-lenses, one is wide-angle, while the other is long distance. Both images are then combined to produce a high-quality single image. Smartphones have become powerful enough to do all of this computational image trickery in an instant, which could lead to countless possibilities in the future. It is widely expected that the smartphones of 2019 will feature triple-sensors for the first time. The additional sensor could help to improve photos in low light conditions and make the images even crisper and looking more natural. It is also thought that there will continue to be improvements in image stabilization in photos and videos.

Privacy Protection

In 2018, new data protection laws came into force in Europe. GDPR, or the General Data Protection Regulation, was designed to hold businesses accountable to the personal information it keeps on their customers. It is also aimed at telling companies what they can and cannot do with customers’ data. The law mirrors a general feeling among people around the world about what information companies hold and what they do with it. Smartphone companies and software manufacturers are now increasingly aware that data is extremely important to consumers. Next year should see a lot more from companies on securing their products and restricting the amount of access advertisers have. Apple has already made strides in this direction, and the other smartphone companies are expected to follow.

Fully Waterproof Phones

Buying a smartphone or getting one on a contract is getting more expensive all the time. Some customers seek finance like those on this website to buy their new phones. With the newest versions of flagship phones now attracting a price tag of over $1000, there is a need from consumers for them to be tough. Many of the manufacturers have been developing their waterproof features which have led to many new phones having some level of protection. However, a fully waterproof phone is still one of the most requested features by customers, so this could be one of the new announcements seen next year. However, the engineering needed to create speakers and charging ports that can be totally waterproof is hard. Could it mean the end of the charging port in favor of wireless-onlycharging?

5G And Faster Internet

It is widely thought that the chip fabricators and phone manufacturers are getting their phone ready next year to include 5G technology. One of the biggest modem companies Qualcomm has said that they have a large number of consumer-level chips available for the smartphone sector. The emergence of 5G means a substantial upgrade on the download speeds over 4G, with potential speeds up to one thousand times faster. It means you will be able to download your favorite movie or box set in seconds, and it will make streaming on mobiles a better experience. However, although smartphones will be rolling 5G out from 2019, the network upgrades needed to deal with the increased speed won’t be widely available until around 2020.

Augmented Reality

Otherwise known as AR, augmented reality has been getting better as smartphones get faster and more powerful. New advances in facial recognition software have also made it possible for game creators to find new ways to use AR in their games. Smartphone makers Samsung and Apple have already developed emojis that can use your face and voice to become interactive. Next year should see this technology being used for more interaction and security.

Under-Screen Sensors

As screen sizes have increased and bezels have become thinner, there has been the inevitable question of where to put the front-facing camera and biometric sensor. Some companies like Apple, have decided to go for the ‘notch’ approach which sees a near bezel-free screen except for a small notch for the camera and earphone vent. Others have chosen to place biometricfingerprint sensors on the back of the phone and place the camera at the bottom of the screen. These solutions are not ideal, so smartphone makers have been working on cameras and fingerprint sensors that are integrated into the screen itself. There have already been prototypes made that have seen positive feedback, so it doesn’t seem long before we will see the first smartphone with this new technology.

Tougher Screens

Along with waterproofing, another request that is often heard from customers is stronger screens. It seems that no matter how strong the manufacturers claim their screens are, there are still many incidents of cracking reported. Most smartphone makers use Gorilla Glass on their phones which is designed to be tough and durable. However, some companies like Apple have been testing stronger materials like sapphire displays. These displays are much tougher and scratch resistant, but, they are difficult to manufacture in large quantities. They are currently mostly used in luxury watches, although if the process can be improved, it could be coming to smartphones soon.

The improvements and development of smartphones are staggering, and it seems that there are still many avenues manufacturers have yet to explore. As long as customers ask for improvements, they will continue to push the envelope in pursuit of the perfect all-round phone.

Gorilla Glass 6 Ink Jet Customization is Super Cool

Corning today unveiled its latest iteration of Smartphone Protection glass, Gorilla Glass 6 with significant improvement over its previous Gorilla Glass 5. It is Corning’s most durable glass to date and aims to offer unprecedented protection against multiple drops.

"Gorilla Glass 6 is an entirely new glass composition that can be chemically strengthened to give it significantly higher levels of compression than is possible with Gorilla Glass 5. This enables Gorilla Glass 6 to be more resistant to damage." – Dr. Jaymin Amin, Vice President – Technology and Product Development, Corning Gorilla Glass and Corning Specialty Materials.

Well, that's not all. Along with the announcement Corning also demonstrated a new technology called Ink Jet which can allow you to fully customize glass. You can create photorealistic smartphone backs, new glass textures, and more.

Corning is calling this cool technology as Corning Vibrant Ink Jet. Thoughts?

9 Inexpensive Tech Updates for Summer 2018

What’s new in tech for summer 2018? As we all know, technology advances ultra-fast these days, with a new model released of a brand’s flagship product pretty much once per year. This renders your devices outdated pretty quickly, and it can be an expensive habit to constantly try to keep up with new models.

Luckily, there are ways to keep ahead of new tech without buying a slightly updated gadget every single year. Because let’s face it, the new updates are only usually a gadget that does the same function as the last, but with a scarcely better camera and a new charger port. Below we’ve listed ways you can enjoy the latest technological modernizations without splashing out potentially thousands on gadgets and gizmos.

Smart Speakers

Smart speakers are getting easier on the wallet and more and more high-tech. Below are our top picks for under $150:

  • Amazon Echo Spot – There has been multiple iterations of the Amazon Echo now, but the brand-new Spot is under $130 and is a much more stylish update for screened speakers after the Echo Show. The spherical speaker can become a clock display, act as a baby monitor or home surveillance device, show album artwork and lyrics when playing music, and more.
  • Google Home Mini – This tiny and very cheap (under $50) mini home speaker can do practically everything a larger one can but plugs into your phone. This means it’s fully portable, so you can take it between home and work.
  • Harman Kardon Invoke – This $100 speaker is powered by Microsoft’s Cortana assistant and is a cool 360-degree conical shape that will provide a focal point in your rooms. It’s smart home system compatible, can make hands-free calls, and will tell you your calendar along with many other functions.

Echo Buttons

These nifty little buttons are compatible with most Amazon Echo models and are a gameplay add-on. For $20, they’re the perfect after-dinner entertainment for a night in with friends.

PowerbankPhone Case

We all know the importance of a protective phone case, and many of us have come to rely on portable power banks when we’re out and about to prevent our crummy iPhone batteries from dying on us. It’s mostly been the case until now that you have to choose between style and functionality when it comes to protecting your phone. Well, one iPhone case brand has turned this all on its head.

Introducing stylish, hard-wearing phone cases with in-built powerbanks – three in one! They’re super protective, come in a range of on-trend patterns (glitter, marble, metallic), and store between 60-100% of a full iPhone charge within the case itself. No need to carry around a separate heavy powerbank. You can get them at Casely now.

Acer Iconia One Tablet

A powerful little tablet with 2GB storage – perfect for students and those who need a portable wi-fi enabled device onthego. Priced at $125, it won’t break the bank and comes with all the features you’ll need. It has a webcam, speaker, Bluetooth, microphone, camera, and memory card slot for extra storage. With great reviews, this is the perfect inexpensive tablet for anyone in the market for an iPad alternative.

Instant Cameras

Vintage polaroid-style cameras that print out pictures there-and-then have made a big comeback. Here’s our top pick of the latest models:

  • Polaroid Snap – Straight from the original brand, the Polaroid Snap can be snapped up for an affordable $82. It’s cute, ergonomically-packaged and produces stunning rectangular instant pictures.
  • Instax Mini 9 – For $55 on Amazon, these make a great treat for yourself or gift for someone else. The Instax Mini 9 features a number of different modes, and there are heaps of add-ons you can buy, like rainbow-colored film and pastel lenses.
  • Polaroid Pop – Slightly over-budget at $199, we had to include this camera for its amazing features. This instant camera has a touch-screen display – no more looking through viewfinders for your instant pictures – and you can use the screen to draw doodles and write on the photos before printing! Definitely one to add to your Christmas list.

Phones Emitting Least Radiation (SAR) – Includes Phones from Samsung, Motorola, and more

Phones Emitting Least Radiation (SAR) – Includes Phones from Samsung, Motorola, and more
One of the biggest concerns associated with Smartphones are the harmful effects of radiation on our health. The studies follow, not always with similar conclusions and always without being able to have an affirmative answer.

Just yesterday, we learned which current-day smartphones emits the highest radiation and apart from all the smartphones, on the top of the was the well known Xiaomi's Mi A1 (Android One).

Today, we've a new infographic straight from Statista showing which current-day smartphones emits the least radiation. The list has been published by German Federal Office for Radiation Protection (Bundesamt für Strahlenschutz) which maintains a comprehensive database of smartphones and the level of radiation they emit.
The smartphone creating the lowest level of radiation is the Sony Xperia M5 - with a specific absorption rate of 0.14 watts per kilogram. Samsung handsets also feature prominently, with half of the top ten coming from the South Korean company.

One of the biggest concerns associated with Smartphones are the harmful effects of radiation on our health. The studies follow, not always with similar conclusions and always without being able to have an affirmative answer.

There's no conclusive scientific research yet on the impact of mobile phone radiation, but people who want to weigh up the risk should check out the below infographic.

The list has been published by German Federal Office for Radiation Protection (Bundesamt für Strahlenschutz) which maintains a comprehensive database of smartphones and the level of radiation they emit. The below infographic shows which current-day smartphones emits the highest radiation. However, apart from all the smartphones, the topmost smartphone with the highest emission rate will definately blow your mind, as the top of the list belongs to the well known Xiaomi's Mi A1 (Android One).

Phones Emitting Most Radiation (SAR) – Mi A1 tops
This is the list that nobody wants to lead and that as of now is dominated by the Mi A1, the Chinese-made Smartphone with Google's Android One that was released back in September 2017.

Forbes says "10 out of the top 16 smartphones on the list produced by Chinese manufacturers such as Xiaomi, Huawei, OnePlus and ZTE. Well known American smartphones do appear on the list as well, however, with three versions of the iPhone present." Feel free to share your opinions.

PSA: GearBest Customer Details including Password might have leaked online

Coming straight from Reddit Communities, GearBest Customer Details including email address and password are available online in a Pastebin file. GearBest hasn’t made a public announcement regarding this. As a precaution, we recommend you change your password.

Here's what the Redditor said:

Every now and then I like to Google my email address as some sort of random security check. I got an unusual hit on Friday, a Pastebin paste with my email address, password and order information for an order I placed with Gearbest amongst hundreds of other customers.

I immediately contacted them through Customer Support and Facebook. Their Customer Support didn't answer until the next day, clearly not understanding the request, despite me including a screenshot of the online leak. I replied with a link and they didn't respond until a day later saying that they "take matters of security very seriously" they "will investigate" and ever so generously donated $10 credit to my account.

So obviously, I think that they're going to send out an email to all of their customers, letting them know their information has been compromised ASAP. Well, no. They've done nothing. The information is still online and if you log in using this information you will find the home address of the user as well as a password which is very likely reused on other websites.

This is perhaps the most careless approach to online security I have ever experienced and as Gearbest is popular worldwide, it's important that all customers know ASAP.

Here is my exchange with their representative.

Replacement screens can be used to hack your phone

Replacement screens can be used to hack your phone
In the newly published paper, researchers from Israel's Ben-Gurion University of the Negev revealed how a common fix to your smartphone can be used to hack your data.

By embedding a malicious chip which cost less than $10 within a third-party touchscreen, the research team was able to manipulate the data transfer from the device's hardware to the software drivers within the OS.

This hack enables the hacker to record keyboard inputs, take pictures of the user, install malicious applications, and redirect users to phishing websites.

The below video shows how this hack works on the Huawei Nexus 6P. With this method both the Android and iOS device can be hacked easily. It would be advisable to stick to the Official parts and service shops.

Report: Indian hacker group leaks data of 1.7 million Snapchat users

Report: Indian hacker group leaks data of 1.7 million Snapchat users
Snapchat, the popular photo and video sharing application recently came into dark news when an ex Snapchat employee claimed that the company CEO "Evan Spiegel" said some unsavory things about Indian and Spaniard users of Snapchat.

#BoycottSnapchat and #Uninstall_Snapchat tags were trending on twitter as well as other Social media platforms, when users got to know that Snapchat had no plans to expand the business to "poor countries" like India and Spain, and the app was only meant for "rich people."

Now, Indian hacker group has reportedly claimed to leak the data of nearly 1.7 million Snapchat users. The hacker group has made the database available on the darknet to mark their resentment against company's remark for India.

These Anonymous Indian hackers are among the top Bug Bounty hunters in the world looking to find vulnerabilities and bugs in systems of IT giants.

However, the company has not confirmed any leaks yet. In the meanwhile, Snapchat has started pushing notifications to the users trying to uninstall it from their devices. Upon making an attempt to uninstall Snapchat, it gives users a notification message "Deleting Snapchat will make Snapchat poor."

Android Creator Andy Rubin teases new Bezel-Less phone

As rumored earlier, the creator of Android, Andy Rubin is building a high-end smartphone with a large edge-to-edge screen that lacks a surrounding bezel. Today, we got our first look at the Company’s First Smartphone.

Rubin on his Twitter handle has posted the first official look of the upcoming new bezel-less Smartphone, saying "I'm really excited about how this is shaping up. Eager to get it in more people's hands...".

According to an earlier report by Bloomberg, the device is said to come with a screen larger than the iPhone 7 Plus's (5.5-inches) but will have a smaller overall footprint because of the lack of bezels. The phone will sport metal edges and a back made of ceramic. The picture above doesn’t reveal a lot about the Smartphone, but the device surely looks stunning with rounded corners, and minimal bezel.

In 2015, Rubin registered Essential Products Inc. and In late 2016, the company registered "Essential" listing smartphones, tablets, and other accessories. It's unclear if this upcoming Smartphone will run on software based on Android. Thoughts?
