October security patch rolling out to Xiaomi Mi A1

Recently announced Xiaomi Mi A1 (Android One) is now getting the latest October Security patch with Stability Improvement and Bug fixes.

If you own a Mi A1 you should have received the over-the-air update notification for October Security Patch, and it's crucial that you download it, as it brings along the fix for the critical severity vulnerability in media framework that could enable a remote attacker using a specially crafted file to execute arbitrary code within the context of a privileged process.

The October Android security update for the Mi A1 weighs in at around 1060.5MB. For a successful installation, the battery in your phone should be at least 50% charged and your device should be connected to a Wi-Fi network or LTE.

If you haven't got the notification of this new software update yet, Just go to Settings - About Phone - Software updates, and It will automatically start downloading the latest update. You can now Root the recently announced Xiaomi Mi A1. Rooting your smartphone give you admin rights and lets you do most of the things you want with your device considering get access to anything and everything that way.

Recently announced Xiaomi Mi A1 (Android One) is now getting the latest September Security patch with Stability Improvement and Bug fixes.

If you own a Mi A1 you should have received the over-the-air update notification for September Security Patch, and it's crucial that you download it, as it brings along the fix for the critical BlueBorne Bluetooth attack.


The Blueborne vulnerability was discovered only recently. It’s a Bluetooth vulnerability that leaves Android devices open to a potential takeover by hackers. The vulnerability is also present in Windows, Linux and some iterations of iOS. Note that the device still runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat after the update.

Armis Reported that the BlueBorne spread through the air (airborne) and attacks devices via Bluetooth. Armis has also disclosed eight related zero-day vulnerabilities, four of which are classified as critical. BlueBorne allows attackers to take control of devices, access corporate data and networks, penetrate secure “air-gapped” networks, and spread malware laterally to adjacent devices. Armis reported these vulnerabilities to the responsible actors, and is working with them as patches are being identified and released.

September Android security update also resolves 30 issues dated 2017-09-01, and 51 issues in the one dated 2017-09-05. Vulnerabilities range from moderate to critical, and Google particularly notes that it provides "Android partners with the flexibility to more quickly fix a subset of vulnerabilities that are similar across all Android devices."

The September Android security update for the Mi A1 weighs in at around 1059MB. Just yesterday, we reported that the Mi A1 firmware cannot be flashed on the Mi 5X because Mi A1 uses A/B system that the Pixel devices use. The A/B systems means that when the device gets an update it will be downloaded and installed on the second system partition and when you restart that second partition will swap to become System A instead of B to make the updating process seamless.


The A/B system can probably be altered by editing Boot Image files. Well, You can now Install Mi A1 Android One Firmware to the Mi 5X, Thanks to developer "heli0us". Additionally, all aspects of the phone are working as expected (No bugs).

You'll need to Unlock Bootloader and Install TWRP Custom Recovery in-order to Install the Android One Firmware on Mi 5X Tiffany. You can grab the Custom Rom ZIP file from below.

The Firmware is based on Google's latest Android 7.1 Nougat. However, Google plans to roll Android 8.0 Oreo update to Mi A1 by end of 2017, this also means that the Mi 5X will also get Android 8.0 Oreo via Port.

Beware: Mi A1 Firmware Bricks Mi 5X

We all know that the Mi A1 is exactly the carbon copy of the Mi 5X in terms of Hardware and Design but on the Software side the Mi A1 is powered with Google's own Stock Android Nougat while the Mi 5X runs Xiaomi's MIUI 9.

Additionally, the partitions are different between the two devices due to the Mi A1 using the A/B system that the Pixel devices uses. Redmi Note 4 gets LineageOS 15 based on Android 8.0 Oreo [New Build Update]

New LineageOS 15 Android 8.0 Oreo Build is now available for the Redmi Note 4. There are few improvements and bug fixes in this new build. The RIL (Network) now works, Bluetooth FC has now gone, no more factory reset before using the firmware.

Well, if you are a Xiaomi Mi 3/Mi 3W owner, then this recent development might be of interest to you. XDA developer "vasishath" has successfully booted up Android 8.0 Oreo (AOSP) on the Mi 3. The developer has also shared a screenshot showing the About Phone Settings section.
The developer is actively working to fix all the bugs present and will release the Custom Rom soon. 

You'll need to Root and Install TWRP Custom Recovery in-order to Install the AOSP Android 8.0 Oreo Rom on Xiaomi Mi 3W.

[Update: Xiaomi reveals Cause] Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Reportedly Explodes In Man's Pocket

After days of investigation, Xiaomi has finally revealed what caused its Redmi Note 4 to catch fire

Upon first impressions of the damaged device, we can conclude that extreme external force was applied to the device, which led to the back cover and battery being bent and screen getting damaged. A detailed investigation has been launched to understand the exact cause of the damage,” Xiaomi said in a statement.

“We would like to request our customers to avoid opening the device, puncturing the battery or applying extreme physical force to the device. Further, do refrain from getting your smartphone repaired at unauthorized repair shops. Instead, if you find issues with your device, visit Xiaomi Authorized Service Centers or reach us directly on our hotline 1800 103 6286,”

After the Note 7 fiasco, Samsung took a huge step with its batteries that might prevent fires and explosions. It's time for all manufacturers to follow Samsung and implement battery protection to their upcoming Smartphones.


Recently a Redmi Note 4 user reported that his device exploded while in Pocket, giving him a second degree burn on his thigh. According to the reports, the Smartphone caught fire while the user "Bhavana Suryakiran" was driving his bike. However, Locals immediately came to rescue and poured water.

The reports also says that the user bought the Redmi Note 4 just 20 days back and he's gonna take this issue to the court.

Sakshi News TV has uploaded several images and a video showing severe burn marks on his thigh and the burning Redmi Note 4. You can check the Images and Video from the below (Source) link (CAUTION: Video might be disturbing).

We just blurred the featured Image of this Article. But, really, the best we can hope for in this kind of situation is that the injured person gets well soon and Xiaomi takes an immediate Action to solve this issue.

Xiaomi has reportedly sold 5 Million Redmi Note 4 from the past 6 months in India, and an exploding phone seems like a freak accident, but it could happen to any Smartphone because of overcharging, or using a third party charger, or any manufacturing fault. Xiaomi is planning to announce new Mi Mix 2 for 2017 later this year, and we have already seen our first Potential Look at what the 2017 Mi Mix will look like.

Many of the leaks we've been tracking in the last few days in particular offer only few design details beyond what we've already heard about Xiaomi's upcoming Mi Mix 2, but thanks to Benjamin Geskin's render, we now have a clearer idea of how the new handset might look alongside current Mi Mix and Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphones.
The first render shows the Mi Mix 2 with 6.0" display while the second render shows the device in 6.4" display.

It seems that Xiaomi is now all prepared to launch another budget Smartphone into the market as the upcoming device has now been spotted at Chinese certification website Tenna.


The Redmi Note 5A is expected to be announced in the upcoming months. The device will be available in two variants, One with Fingerprint sensor, 3GB RAM, and 32GB Internal Storage. While, the other variant will feature 2GB RAM and 16GB Internal Storage without a Fingerprint sensor.

With model no. MDE6, the Redmi Note 5A (Non FPS) comes with a 5.5" HD Display, 1.4Ghz Quad core Processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB Internal Storage, 3000mAh battery, 13MP Rear and 5MP Front facing shooter. The device will come with Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box.
