It's real: Qualcomm Announces Ultrasonic Fingerprint Sensor
Today is the day we've all been waiting for, Qualcomm has finally announced the world's first Ultrasonic Fingerprint Sensor which is capable of Scanning through Display, Thick Glass and Metal with Underwater Operation, Heartbeat and Blood Flow Detection.

Qualcomm says that it is the first commercially announced integrated ultrasonic-based mobile solution to detect heart beat and blood flow for improved mobile authentication experiences.

Note that Qualcomm's design will only work when implemented on an OLED panel under 1200 μm thick. Qualcomm Fingerprint Sensors for Glass and Metal will be compatible with the recently announced Snapdragon 660 and 630 Mobile Platforms, and future Snapdragon Mobile Platforms and non-Snapdragon platforms.

Qualcomm has partnered with VIVO demonstrating Qualcomm Fingerprint Sensors for Display and Metal using modified versions of the VIVO XPlay 6, which can be found at Qualcomm Technologies’ booth W5.E90 (Hall W5) at MWC Shanghai.

That said, Qualcomm announced that it will be supplying these futuristic Next-gen scanners for OEM starting in Summer 2018.
