Xiaomi Mi A1 owners should be seeing August’s security patch rolling out starting today. According to the changelog, the Software weighs in at around 474.4MB.

If you own one of these devices, be on the lookout. While this update would have been more exciting if it had brought 9.0 Pie, which is already available for a few Smartphones.

Xiaomi has already confirmed that the Mi A1 will be getting Android Pie. However, there's no information when Xiaomi plans to roll it out.

Now that Google has released the next version of Android, Android 9.0 Pie, the wait for the devices to get the update has already started. Additionally, Android Pie is already available for Google Pixel and Pixel 2 devices.


Xiaomi has already confirmed that the Mi A1 will receive two years of Major Android Software and that includes the latest Android Pie. There's no informtaion on when Xiaomi is actually going to roll out this update, it may take a few months, as Android 9.0 Pie just came out. But if you want to taste Android Pie right now, you can do it via AOSP ROM. Developer "abhishek987" has successfully ported Android 9.0 Pie for the Mi A1. Additionally, most major aspects of the phone are working as expected.

With Android 9.0 Pie, you'll get new Swipe Gesture navigation, Rotation suggestion, Adaptive Battery and Adaptive Brightness, Smart replies, App actions, Text selection, Redesigned Quick Setting tiles and Notification Panel, Redesigned Volume Options, Brand new Settings, Privacy, Digital Wellbeings (Dashboard) and Winddown Mode, and more...

The last time we updated you on the status of Mi A1 Android 8.1 Oreo update, we told you that it is in the works and might support Project Treble. Now, it seems that Xiaomi has started rolling out Android 8.1 Oreo for selected Mi A1 users who are enrolled to Xiaomi's Beta program. The confirmation came from a screenshot of Mi A1 running Android 8.1 Oreo Beta with the latest April 2018 Security patch.

Reddit user sharkcpn posted a screenshot of the About Phone section claiming that the Mi A1 has received Oreo 8.1 update on Beta ROM. But nothing is confirmed by the Xiaomi though.


The Screenshot clearly shows Mi A1 running Android 8.1 Oreo with April 5, 2018 Security Patch. It has a build number of OPM1.171019.019.8.4.9.

Back in July 2017, Xiaomi announced the Mi 5X for China and rebrandend it as Mi A1 (Android One) for the global markets, which was made official in September 2017 during a launch event in India.

In case you don't know, the Mi A1 is a part of Google’s Android One program which runs stock Android and will receive consistent software updates for a longer period than other smartphones by OEMs that are not a part of the Android One program.

Xiaomi and Google during the announcement of Mi A1 promised Android Oreo update by the end of December 2017 and they succeeded in doing that. However, the company still hasn't updated the Mi A1 to the latest OS which is the 8.1 Oreo.

Well, the good news is, Xiaomi is testing Official 8.1 Oreo for the Mi A1 and with Project Treble Support. When XDA member guy_infinity asked a recognized developer who works for Xiaomi in firmware development, he confirmed that Android 8.1 is in the works for Xiaomi Mi A1, and he also said that "Yes, treble is to be supported". The news was further confirmed by Mishaal Rahman ‏(Editor in Chief at XDA).

Xiaomi Mi A1 users running Android Oreo Beta has picked up a new software update that introduces the February 1st, 2018 security patch.

That’s all that is detailed in the new software version(OP31.170623.026.8.2.1). The most severe issue patched by Google in the February security is a vulnerabilitiy that enable a remote attacker to use a specially crafted file to execute unauthorized code within the context of a privileged process in the Media framework.

[Update: Again] Android Oreo Update for Mi A1 Pulled Due to Bugs

It appears that Xiaomi has pulled the over-the-air (OTA) update of Android 8.0 Oreo that was released back in December for the Mi A1 after users complained of several issues with the new Software.

A Xiaomi rep confirmed that the global release of Android Oreo on Mi A1 has been cancelled because of a bugs on the build. This will be replaced by another software, a partial release of which will be pushed out soon.

The most noticible bug faced by users running Android 8.0 Oreo on the Mi A1 is the battery drain which is closely connected to the phone’s Bluetooth function. Some user had issues when answering a call if the phone’s display is turned off, but the phone is not locked.


The Oreo update comes with December 2017 patch for the Mi A1 weighs in at around 1104.1MB. Android 8.0 Oreo brings along brand new System Interface, Autofill, Picture In Picture, Better Battery Life, Fast Boot, and more.

How to manually install Official Android 8.0 Oreo Beta on Xiaomi Mi A1

Just a few days back, Xiaomi started recruitment for Android Oreo beta testers for the Mi A1 and the now company has started rolling out the update to the eligible users. While this is only a beta program, it's still good to see that Google and Xiaomi are working on bringing the latest version of Android for its users.

The Oreo Beta with December 2017 patch for the Mi A1 weighs in at around 1104.1MB. Android 8.0 Oreo brings along brand new System Interface, Autofill, Picture In Picture, Better Battery Life, Fast Boot, and more.


The Beta is only available for a few Mi A1 users, However Non-Beta members can now install the update in an unofficial way thanks to XDA Developer "rameshurfrnd1". The developer just shared TWRP Backup of his Mi A1 running Android Oreo Beta and the same can be used to Install Oreo Beta.

Note: This procedure is very technical and should be performed by a person with sound knowledge of rooting Android devices. If the step-by-step installation process is not followed properly, there are chances of the smartphone getting bricked or being permanently irreparable. Step 2: Save the TWRP Backup file at TWRP/BACKUPS/df0bdeb70404/[UNOFFICIAL] AOSP OREO - tissot Directory.

Step 3: Boot to TWRP Mode.

Step 4: Once entering the TWRP settings menu, clear phone's memory (full) by selecting 'Wipe' option. Once done, select 'Swipe to Factory Reset' perform factory reset.

Step 5: Return to TWRP settings and select Restore Backup.

Step 6: Restore the TWRP Oreo Backup.

Step 7: Reboot your Smartphone.

Well, You can now Install Mi A1 Android One Firmware on the Redmi Note 4, Thanks to developer "GLokin666". Additionally, all aspects of the phone except Fingerprint and VoLTE are working as expected.


Mi A1 uses A/B system that the Pixel devices use. The A/B systems means that when the device gets an update it will be downloaded and installed on the second system partition and when you restart that second partition will swap to become System A instead of B to make the updating process seamless. The A/B system can probably be altered by editing Boot Image files.

You'll need to Unlock Bootloader and Install TWRP Custom Recovery in-order to Install the Android One Firmware on  Redmi Note 4 Mido. You can grab the Custom Rom ZIP file from below.

The Firmware is based on Google's latest Android 7.1.2 Nougat. Additionally, Google plans to roll Android 8.0 Oreo update to Mi A1 by end of 2017, this also means that the Redmi Note 4 will also get Android 8.0 Oreo via Port.

Recently announced Xiaomi Mi A1 (Android One) is now getting the latest September Security patch with Stability Improvement and Bug fixes.

If you own a Mi A1 you should have received the over-the-air update notification for September Security Patch, and it's crucial that you download it, as it brings along the fix for the critical BlueBorne Bluetooth attack.


The Blueborne vulnerability was discovered only recently. It’s a Bluetooth vulnerability that leaves Android devices open to a potential takeover by hackers. The vulnerability is also present in Windows, Linux and some iterations of iOS. Note that the device still runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat after the update.

Armis Reported that the BlueBorne spread through the air (airborne) and attacks devices via Bluetooth. Armis has also disclosed eight related zero-day vulnerabilities, four of which are classified as critical. BlueBorne allows attackers to take control of devices, access corporate data and networks, penetrate secure “air-gapped” networks, and spread malware laterally to adjacent devices. Armis reported these vulnerabilities to the responsible actors, and is working with them as patches are being identified and released.

Just yesterday, we reported that the Mi A1 firmware cannot be flashed on the Mi 5X because Mi A1 uses A/B system that the Pixel devices use. The A/B systems means that when the device gets an update it will be downloaded and installed on the second system partition and when you restart that second partition will swap to become System A instead of B to make the updating process seamless.


The A/B system can probably be altered by editing Boot Image files. Well, You can now Install Mi A1 Android One Firmware to the Mi 5X, Thanks to developer "heli0us". Additionally, all aspects of the phone are working as expected (No bugs).

You'll need to Unlock Bootloader and Install TWRP Custom Recovery in-order to Install the Android One Firmware on Mi 5X Tiffany. You can grab the Custom Rom ZIP file from below.

We all know that the Mi A1 is exactly the carbon copy of the Mi 5X in terms of Hardware and Design but on the Software side the Mi A1 is powered with Google's own Stock Android Nougat while the Mi 5X runs Xiaomi's MIUI 9.

Additionally, the partitions are different between the two devices due to the Mi A1 using the A/B system that the Pixel devices uses.
