Daydream offers an unprecedented opportunity to dive into a kaleidoscope of experiences. With Daydream, you can explore new worlds, attend a sporting event or concert, enjoy your own personal cinema and so much more. To get started, you’ll need Google’s VR headset and controller - Daydream View and a Daydream-Ready Smartphone.
For now, Only Google's Pixel/Pixel XL and Moto Z/Force are compatible with Daydream, Google’s platform for high-quality, mobile VR.
Thanks to reddit user CharaNalaar, for letting us know that one can actually make his/her Android Smartphone Daydream-Ready.
You will need a Rooted Smartphone running Android 7.0 Nougat, Google VR Services, and the Daydream app. It also requires a compatible Daydream viewer and controller ( You can use a Cardboard viewer with the controller emulator running on any other device).
How to Make your Android Smartphone Daydream-Ready-
Using a root explorer app, navigate to
/system/etc/permissions/handheld_core_hardware.xml
Inside the file is the list of permissions, formatted as XML and nicely commented.
Add the following lines into the root permissions tag-
<feature name="android.software.vr.mode" /> <feature name="android.hardware.vr.high_performance" />
Reboot your device and You should be able to launch Daydream from the app. This method is working on Nexus 5X, LG V20 and will probably also work on other Android Phones.
Update:- We have tested this method on Moto G4 Play and Its working!
