[Sponsored] How to Have a Safer Mobile Experience

Sirin Solarin: Privacy-Focused Android Smartphone

Are you aware of all the hidden dangers that affect mobile users today? If not, you should be, and you should also be aware of the precautions you need to take along the way. Once you take these precautions, you can have much more peace of mind and use your mobile device or devices in a much safer way. Below are some of the ways you can ensure that you have a safer mobile experience.

Education and Understanding

First of all, you should be aware of all of the threats that mobile users face today. The good news is there are countless websites, video sharing sites and social media websites that keep mobile users updated about the latest issues and possible problems that can occur to Android devices, Apple devices and a wide range of other mobile devices.

If you want to take your understanding to another level, it may be worth considering an online information security degree or online information assurance program from a recognized college or university. This will ensure that you never have to worry about any online problems and it could also lead to a successful career in this area.

Choose Your Apps Wisely

It's very tempting to download every mobile app that takes your fancy. However, the more apps you install, the more likely it is that you will increase the risk of malware or some other issues that could affect your phone’s performance, or even worse. The main mobile app market places are usually more trustworthy and have a screening process that ensures that the apps they list are safe and secure, so you should only install your apps from these app marketplaces.

However, not all apps are as good as they are advertised to be. You should check the user reviews for any app you intend to install and find out what other mobile users think about a particular app.

Make Sure You Only Use Secure Websites

As well as accessing apps on a regular basis, millions of mobile users visit mobile websites every day, too. Once again, it pays to err on the side of caution and check out the reputation of a website you intend to visit first. In most instances, a simple Google search will give you all of the information you need, before you finally decide to visit a particular website.

Always Have Your Wits about You and Use Common Sense

It's often the simple mistakes a mobile user makes that can cause the biggest problems. For instance, if you regularly log into an online website, make sure you keep your usernames and passwords safe and always use secure connections. In other situations, only open emails and messages from sources you trust and don't click on any suspicious looking links or images.

As mobile technologies and systems advance, so too do certain online dangers. However, if you follow the tips above, these dangers will be less likely to affect you and allow you to use your mobile device in a much safer way.

Here’s How You Can Use Your Smartphone to Become Smarter

[Sponsored] Here’s How You Can Use Your Smartphone to Become Smarter

Your phone gives you access to a host of online resources you can use to learn new skills and upgrade your knowledge; you can even study with an online program and earn a degree. Instead of using your phone to play games or keep up with your social media when you have some down time, you could put that time to productive use and improve your career prospects. Let’s find out how.

Embrace the MOOC

In 2016, 58 million students around the world signed up to study with a MOOC, up from 35 million the previous year. What’s a MOOC? MOOC stands for Massive Open Online Course, and currently you can choose from 6,850 courses delivered by over 700 universities.

The majority of MOOCs are free, but a growing number have a fee attached, as a paid course or as the price of receiving a completion certificate. Some paid courses allow you to earn a nanodegree in a few subjects, which will qualify you for entry level positions with companies like AT&T.

Earn Your Next Degree Online

While you can study for free with a MOOC, you’ll still need ‘proper’ qualifications if you want to compete for the good jobs. Leading universities, like Rutgers Online, offer a wide range of degree courses at both the bachelor’s and master’s levels.

Take an online master of information degree, study business or healthcare administration, learn to defeat hackers with a cybersecurity degree, or study something like history or philosophy. There are hundreds of degree courses available from accredited schools, so you’re sure to find a course that fits your needs.

Rigorous tuition is delivered in both pre-recorded sessions and live classes, and you can access all of your course material and submit your assignments online, enabling you to catch up with lectures while you commute into the city on the train, while you’re waiting at the doctor’s office, or any time that you have a few spare minutes.

Courses, like the online MLIS degree, typically take around two years to complete and you should expect to put in roughly 15 hours of study per week.

Learn New Language Skills

Learning a new language can be tough if you follow the traditional route of studying grammar and lists of verbs. But it can be easy and fun when you use an app. The most widely used language app is Duolingo, and you can use the free app to learn one of 22 languages including French, German, Swedish, and Hebrew.

The lessons are short, so you can squeeze one in when you’ve got a few moments free and pick up a new language in your spare time. Lessons give you a mix of listening and speaking tasks, as well as text to translate and multiple choice questions to answer. Once you complete a lesson, the app gives you a grade. The inbuilt gamification keeps you coming back to the app so that you don’t start full of enthusiasm and then fade away.

Since you keep your phone in your purse or pocket everywhere you go, it makes sense to use your mobile technology to learn something new and maximize your career opportunities in the process.

How to Choose the Right Tech to Study Online

If you are about to embark on online study, then it’s important to ensure that you have all the right study materials that you need in order to do well and achieve a good result when you graduate. When studying for your college degree online, you’ll need a range of gadgets in order to help make sure that your program runs smoothly. When you’re studying for an online masters in counseling, the technology that you use is hugely important and could even impact your final result. We’ve listed some of the main things to keep in mind when choosing gadgets and tech for your online degree.

Affordability

Affordability is one of the main things to bear in mind when it comes to choosing tech to help you study. There’s no need to splash out on the latest MacBook when you’re studying for an online counseling degree, for example, but if you’re studying for a largely design-based program this could be an essential purchase. So, be sure to work out exactly how much you can afford to pay for before you make a choice. To determine this, it’s a good idea to make a list of all the features that you’re looking for in a gadget, and choose the best value for money option that fits the bill.

Quality:

When purchasing gadgets such as a laptop, e-reading device or even a smartphone to help with your online degree program, then it’s important to ensure that you choose items that are good quality. Remember that your online degree is expected to last some time, and this could be anything from one year for masters’ degrees and other advanced programs to four years or even more if you are studying on an undergraduate degree program. Because of this, you will need to ensure that you choose tech which is designed to stand the test of time, enabling you to rely on it whilst you study.

Necessity

If you’re studying online, then you are probably excited about the prospect of making some great savings on tuition fees. However, when you enroll on a program such as a counseling degree online, it is easy to be tempted to spend more than you need on gadgets that might not even be necessary. For example, you might be thinking about investing in an e-reader to help you get through the reading list. However, if you already have a tablet this could be a waste of money, as you can quickly turn most tablets into an eBook with a handy app.

Value

Last, but not least, when choosing tech and gadgets to help you with your online degree, you should also think about the future and whether or not you are going to sell them on to other students after graduation. If this is the case, then it’s a good idea to opt for technology that’s less likely to lose its value over time, for example, Apple products, which tend to lose value slower than others.
