Motorola Posts January 2018 Security Patch Release Notes for the Moto X4, Update Coming Soon
Motorola seems to be gearing up to unleash a wave of January Security updates onto its devices. We first saw January 2018 release notes show up for the Moto G5s Plus, Moto G5 Plus, and Moto Z2 Force, but we are now seeing it for the Moto X4.

According to Google, January Security Patch brings along 40 different patches with some ranging from a “Moderate” severity all the way to “High” severity including Meltdown and Spectre flaws.


So, the company is most likely to start January 2018 update official rollout for the Moto X4 by the end of this month. We will let you know once the update is live. Stay tuned to our Facebook and Twitter page to get the first News.

Moto X4 - Maintenance Release Notes

INTRODUCTION

Motorola is excited to announce a new software update for moto x4 by Motorola. This update brings important security improvements to your phone.

NOTE: All information on your phone will be saved. You cannot downgrade to a previous software version after installing this update.

Android security: Includes the updates of Android security patches through January 1st, 2018.

Moto X4 Official Android 8.0 Firmware: How to Download and Install

Just a few weeks back Motorola started pushing Android 8.0 Oreo to the Standard and Android One Moto X4.

Oreo for Moto X4 brings over the latest features such as faster booting, new Settings and Quick-Settings UI, Picture in Picture (PIP), Adaptive icons, Autofill, Notification timeout, New Emojis, Rootless Andromeda support, and Night Mode. However, you won't notice any major UI changes.

Motorola has also added several new features to the latest software update including new Moto Application, Camera UI, Motorola Suggestions, Google Pixel Dialer + Calling Screen, the update also brings the latest December 1st 2017 Security Patch.

If you did not receive the update wait for few days or install it manually via downloading and flashing the Official Android 8.0 Oreo firmware for the Moto X4.

Note: This procedure is very technical and should be performed by a person with sound knowledge of flashing firmware and unlocking bootloader. How to Install Stock Firmware on Moto X4 -


Step 1. First Download the Drivers, Fastboot and Moto X4 firmware images from below.

Step 2. Install the drivers. Extract the firmware into the Fastboot folder.

Step 3. Boot the Moto X4 into Fastboot mode by pressing both the volume buttons and power button at the same time.

Step 4. Connect your Moto X4 to your Desktop via Original USB cable.

Step 5. Open cmd in Fastboot folder (By pressing shift key and right mouse click.)

Step 6. Paste this command-

Android 8.1 Oreo features come to Moto G5s Plus via Pixel Experience [How to install]

Now that Google has released the next version of Android, Android Oreo, the wait for the devices to get the update first has already started. Motorola has already updated it's software support page with the list of its devices that will officially get the update and Yes the Moto G5s Plus is one of them.

Moto G5s Plus can now get a custom version of Android 8.1 Oreo. Although this custom ROM is made available to the public, it is still under testing by its developers since Android 8.1 is fresh off the Google labs.

With Android 8.1 Oreo, you'll get new Wallpaper Themes, Pixel 2 Launcher, Redesigned Power Menu, new Shutdown and Reboot Animation, Round Statusbar Icons, and Settings.


You'll need to Unlock Bootloader and Install TWRP Custom Recovery (64 BIT) in-order to Install the Pixel Experience ROM based on Android 8.1 Oreo on Moto G5s Plus Sanders. You can grab the Custom Rom ZIP file from below.

How to Install Android 8.1 Oreo Pixel Experience ROM on Moto G5s Plus:

Step 1: Download Pixel Experience Android 8.1 Oreo custom ROM on to your Smartphone.

Step 2: Boot to TWRP Mode.

Step 3: Once entering the TWRP settings menu, clear phone's memory (full) by selecting 'Wipe' option. Once done, select 'Swipe to Factory Reset' perform factory reset.

Step 4: Return to TWRP settings and tap 'Install' by the selecting .Zip file in the phone's memory.

Step 5: Come back to TWRP menu setting to approve the installation by tapping 'Swipe to Confirm Flash'

Step 6: Flashing of the custom ROM begins and after few minutes, a message 'Successful' appears on the screen, thus completing installation.
