Motorola Coin unboxing and first impressions

Our Motorola Connect Coin has just arrived! The new smart tag from Binatone, the new owner of the Motorola Accessories division, promises to be a very handy little device. We were curious to see what it would come with and how it worked, so here's our unboxing and first impressions of the device.

The front of the box has a clear window to the product and shows the dedicated app, which will let you sync and set-up your Coin with your phone. This will let you use your Coin as a multimedia button and will also let you send alerts to your beloved ones if you are in danger. It will let you find your keys/bag/purse straight from the app, too.

The back of the box shows all its main features, like replaceable battery, 300 days of standby, and a range of 100 feet. It will also show you motorolahome.com as official website, not motorola.com, since accessories are not made by the Lenovo-owned Motorola Mobility. All home products and mobile accessories are sold on the Motorola Home website.

As you would expect, the box comes with very little inside. What you see is what you get, in the end. Yes, there are some user guides, a small tool to replace the battery, and a little Connect Coin pendant, but nothing else.

Finally, the product itself, in all its glory. The Coin is small, compact and light. Our unit is black, though there's a wide variety of colors available. It comes with the classic Motorola dimple and feels very premium quality. It's wide notification light is bright and will be useful after paired with the dedicated app.

Overall, it's a pretty impressive device. It's just so little! We will keep testing it to see how useful it is, but our early impressions are very good. Hellomoto indeed!

Thanks, Harshith!

This is what 2017 Moto Smartphone will look like

Remember we talked about a phone some weeks ago? It could either be 2017's Moto X, the next-gen Moto-M or the upcoming Moto C (HelloMotoHK leaked the roadmap names, remember?).

What we have here is a render we made ourselves to give you a better look of this upcoming device, which potentially looks like the Moto X 2017. We already know it's an all-metal phone, with a similar camera set-up to the Moto Z series (even the flat tire). Check it out:

The device kind of reminds us of the original Droid Turbo/Moto Turbo/Moto Maxx from 2014, and it actually looks pretty good. We don't have much specs for the device, although we know it will have a front fingerprint scanner like Moto Z has and will come in Silver and Gold color, from the size of the hands in the leaked picture it comes with a small-ish screen, most likely a 5.2" screen or less.

Whatever device it is, it sure looks like 2017 will be an interesting year for Moto.

Note:- The render is based on what our source told us and the above leaked Image, the actual design may vary.

#FBF: Android flip phone by Motorola

Flip phones. Who doesn't love them? They represent the 2000s to us, and they represent the best of Motorola to us, crazy Moto fans. These phones have something special, that we can't tell what it is. Feeling cool while closing the flip, pretending to make calls just to open it, and open-close it until the phone begs you to stop. It's just an awesome feeling.

That's why this is one of my most beloved pieces from my collection. This is the 2012 MotoSmart Flip (XT611). This phone was a Latin American exclusive in the middle of the storm, after Google acquired Motorola and started firing everyone and cancelling awesome projects. This device was lucky to see the light and it became the last Motorola flip phone EVER.

The phone looks amazing, though it was totally under-powered. A 3.2" screen (HVGA), 800MHz processor and 512MB of RAM. And you could only install 5-6 apps, otherwise it would give you an annoying no-memory notification (unless you rooted it and installed Link2SD, remember those days?).

(forgive my 2012 English-level...it's a really old video)

It came with an awful 5MP camera and its wifi connection was slower than any other device ever released. But it was an freaking Android-powered flip phone. Its external glass, similar to the MotoMING, or (Krave ZN4 for our American friends) let you use the phone with the flip closed so you could take pictures, listen to music or read text messages. It was such an awesome feature alone that all the drawbacks seemed to disappear.

I always go back to the Smart Flip when I'm feeling nostalgic, but then I power it on and remember it's a Gingerbread phone running on 512MB of RAM. That's when I remember why I didn't come back to using it the last time, and I put it away.

But it sure lies in my collection as one of my finest pieces. It's the last flip phone Motorola ever released. Who knows, maybe Lenovo asks Moto to release another flip phone one day. Many people will be happy when that happens. Until then, I will cherish this little, under-powered gem.

Android 7.x Nougat is coming to OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 2

Android 7.0 Nougat coming to OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 2

OnePlus 3 users will be getting Android 7.0 Nougat (Beta community build) this month, as said by Brian Yoon, the software head at OnePlus.

Also Read:- OnePlus CEO Teases Android 7.0 Nougat update for the OnePlus 3

Not only OnePlus 3, but OnePlus will also update the OnePlus 2 to Android Nougat very soon. Yoon didn't say anything about the OnePlus X and OnePlus One, so it might be possible that OnePlus might ditch these two smartphones.

As said earlier, OnePlus will now merge Oxygen OS and Hydrogen OS for faster updates and it seems that "Android 7.0 Nougat" is going to be a fruit of the same.

The reports also say that OnePlus will roll out Official build of Android 7.x Nougat for OnePlus 3 by the end of this year.

Instagram has introduced three new features to make your stories even more fun, which includes support for Boomerang and mentions.

The new update contains a new tool called "Boomerang", which converts your burst photos into a mini video clip that plays forward and backward.

"Mention" feature allows users to mention people into the story by using "@" followed by a username and select the person you’d like to mention.

The last feature is exclusive to "verified accounts" which lets them to include links to their blogs or websites. At the end of certain Stories, you may see a "see more" link.

The new update is available as Instagram version 9.7.

Night mode could return to Nexus devices

Night mode could return to Nexus devices

Google might bring back "Night mode" to Nexus Smartphones. The feature was removed earlier after Android 7.0.1 beta update. According to Ian Lake from Google: "Night mode requires driver support that is no present on Nexus devices".

But it seems that Google must have heard Angry Nexus users (As They want the Night mode back) because today someone at Google has marked the issue as "closed" with a status of "FutureRelease".

Google might include the "Night mode" feature in future Beta update for Nexus 6P and 5X.

Rumor: Motorola's 2017 roadmap includes Moto X comeback and a new Moto C

Rumor: Motorola's 2017 roadmap includes Moto X comeback and a new Moto C

Get excited, world. Moto is here. That's what Motorola's latest campaign says. And we should be excited, indeed. HellomotoHK has now leaked the names of all the upcoming devices for the next year.

This includes the typical Moto G, Moto Z, Moto E devices we've seen this year, and those series might be split into Play, Force, Droid and Plus editions. The list also includes the newly announced Moto M series and the iconic Moto X series, which might make a comeback next year. There's also a Moto C, and we feel that name screams low-end smartphone. The full list shows these devices:

  • Moto Z - Motorola
  • Moto X - Lenovo
  • Moto M - Lenovo
  • Moto G - Motorola / Lenovo
  • Moto E - Lenovo / ODM
  • Moto C - Lenovo / ODM

From what we can tell, the Motorola team will be in charge of designing and engineering the Moto Z and Moto G series as always, though the other devices will be handled by Lenovo teams. Everything will be under Motorola Mobility, the company, though. Since late 2015, Motorola has been in charge of designing and manufacturing all the Lenovo MBG devices and this remains.

HellomotoHK also said yesterday's Moto M is in fact a Lenovo project. But from the packaging leaks from previous weeks you can see it says the phone was made by Motorola Mobility. Too hard to understand? Here is a shorter explanation: all Moto phones are still manufactured by Motorola Mobility, though Lenovo teams are working inside Motorola to create the new Moto X, Moto M, Moto E and Moto C devices. Why so many devices? That's because Moto(rola) will be the only Lenovo brand for smartphones from now on.

As for the Moto 360? Well, we know smartwatches haven't been as successful as expected. HellomotoHK said in the comments section that Motorola might sell that business or license the brand rights for watches next year. Knowing Motorola sold its accessories division last year to Binatone, that could possibly be the new home for Moto 360 devices, though nothing is confirmed.

Report: Lenovo Will Use Moto Branding for All Its Future Handsets

As rumored earlier, Lenovo is ditching its own brand for all future handsets. Instead, it will be using "Moto" as its only brand for future.

The reports also says that the Company is replacing Xudong Chen as co-president and SVP of Lenovo’s Mobile Business Group in China, with Gina Qiao, formerly SVP of human resources.

And it would also mean we won't see "Vibe" or "Phab" phones in the future. Everything might turn into Moto G, E, Z and so on.

Motorola set to release a new boot animation

Hellomoto indeed! Remember we told you about the Motorola logo making a comeback to Moto boot animations after being cut out for this year's roadmap? Well, Motorola and Lenovo have made a few edits to the last one they announced, and Moto is already showing it up in some of its Twitter accounts.

The new boot animation is similar to what you saw last time, but one of the things that got some criticism from fans and tech sites was the fact that Lenovo seemed to punch the batwing logo out of the picture, as if they were replacing Motorola. Some Motorola fans complained about this, because it seemed like Moto(rola) was punched/kicked out by its parent company.

But Lenovo did listen to those comments and decided to change it up a bit. Now, instead of the Lenovo logo kicking out the Motorola logo, the batwing rotates and becomes the Lenovo logo, and then it rotates once again to become the batwing, and so on.

Although some might find this isn't a big deal, I think it's quite meaningful. Lenovo and the Moto team listened to the fans when they asked for the Motorola logo to be back as boot animation for Moto phones, and now they listened to the fans when they asked to modify it. It speaks good about the company and its respect for the Motorola legacy.

You can check out the new boot animation with its new ending here:
