“Godless” malware affects 90% of Android devices

"Godless" a new mobile malware has been detected by Researchers at security intelligence blog Trend Micro . The Malware targets All Android Devices running 5.1 Lollipop and earlier Android versions i.e Approx 90% of the Android Devices .

Godless , after gaining root privilege remotely it can be controlled to silently install unwanted software on the affected device, or even to spy the user .

According to Trend Micro -

Based on the data gathered from our Trend Micro Mobile App Reputation Service, malicious apps related to this threat can be found in prominent app stores, including Google Play, and has affected over 850,000 devices worldwide.

Though the Malicious apps seems to have been removed from Google Play according to Trends Micro

We have also seen a large amount of clean apps on Google Play that has corresponding malicious versions – they share the same developer certificate – in the wild. The versions on Google Play do not have the malicious code. Thus, there is a potential risk that users with non-malicious apps will be upgraded to the malicious versions without them knowing about apps’ new malicious behavior. Note that updating apps outside of Google Play is a violation of the store’s terms and conditions.

If you are downloading apps from outside , make sure you have done a background check of the developer and the app . Downloading apps from Google Play seems much safer than outside apk's .

Seems , Android is getting prone to malware's . When the OS becomes too popular for public , then it becomes popular for hackers also !

Carl Pei responds to AnandTech's OnePlus 3 display criticisms

Back a while OnePlus revealed The OnePlus 3 , which seems to be One of the best Smartphone at this price range .

OnePlus 3 has gone through many reviews . Some people are saying OnePlus is buying reviews and Some people are saying approx All reviews are fake . Whatever it is ,We know all is Carl Pei is monitoring all the reviews .

Few days back , One of the renowned reviewer "AnandTech" Got their hands on The OnePlus 3 . AnandTech said that "OnePlus 3 Display really kills the Smartphone for me" .

Here's a little bit What AnandTech Said -

Unfortunately, the display really kills the phone for me. Based on every other aspect I think it would be a no-brainer to replace the Nexus 5X with the OnePlus 3 as my daily driver, even if it is bigger than I'd like. I simply can't though, because I just feel unpleasant whenever I look at the OnePlus 3's display. I don't think it's a stretch to say it's the worst display I've examined during my time at AnandTech, as despite the Nexus 6's faults it didn't have the ghastly blue appearance of the OnePlus 3.

And of course this is a bit insulting for a Company like OnePlus and This is how Carl Pei responded to it -

I'm sick and tired of sentiment like this. It may not seem so, but for a product company -- it's insulting.
It started with the OnePlus One, people trying to find explanations and faults that could have led to its reasonable price. People were complaining about screen variance (visible and common for LCDs, search for "iPhone yellow blue screen" images), vibration motor, and cheaper NAND, etc. Looking for any explanation, and quick to jump on bandwagons and to conclusions.
With our relationships in the supply chain, we know the BOM (bill of materials) of all other flagships. Out of all the devices that the OnePlus 3 gets compared to, it is one of, if not the most expensive to make. Do you think the price delta between a 2K AMOLED and a 1080p AMOLED is huge? It's a product decision, and spec by spec is not how to judge a product. The OnePlus 3 uses latest generation AMOLED made to our specifications by Samsung. The vast majority of our users, and reviewers love Optic AMOLED. It is NOT tuned to sRGB, and was never meant to be. sRGB tuning is a niche requirement and is not the right choice for the vast majority of smartphone users. Why do you think it's hidden under developer settings on the 6P? For those who need it, we've taken note, and have added it to the next OTA.
On the other hand, I get it. People simplify and use mental shortcuts to make sense of the world around them. Price = quality. We probably haven't done good enough of a job explaining our model, and we need to work on this going forward. I understand that sometimes, when our products don't have the highest absolute specs, it might look like corners are cut. This happens when people don't understand the product reasoning that went behind a choice. When we see this, we'll be increasingly vigilant about educating people. Over time, we hope that more people can understand our product philosophy of placing experience above specs. Product management is an art and not throwing together the highest specs. If that's what you're looking for, OnePlus is the wrong brand for you. This is also why I'm not the least worried about new device x or y that may have better specs, because I know it will not fare as well as the OnePlus 3 on the most important spec of them all: NPS.
Before finishing this rant, I want to make things really clear. There are no corners cut on the product, and there will never be. OnePlus cuts corners on business model (direct to consumer), org structure (nimble and fast team), and marketing (organic word of mouth focused).

Motorola Releases Open Source Kernel For The Moto G Plus

Moto G4 is Motorola, not Lenovo

Ever since the moto G4 was released last month, a lot of reviewers have been calling the phone as Lenovo Moto G4. Well, the truth might surprise you: it's a MOTOROLA! The phone, which will be released in India tomorrow (standard version) and had its Plus version released last month has been reviews back and forth, but it seems the tech blogs and some members of the press didn't notice some important facts.

To begin with, its build.prop shows Motorola as its brand/manufacturer. Just open any benchmarking app and you will see this. If it wasn't a Motorola phone, it wouldn't carry that name in its software. You can see this here:

Its official specs at motorola.com show it comes with the Motorola Mobile Computing System as processor. This is the name of the SoC that allows all the Moto Display and actions/gestures for the phone.

If you check out the back of the box (in Europe and Latin America) or the bottom of it if you are in India, it will say "Manufactured by Motorola Mobility, LLC.", which is the formal name of Motorola. This is very important, because it proves the phone is actually a Motorola device.

In addition, the bottom of the box shows the Motorola logo and in the legal information sticker you will see it says Motorola and the model number. So the phone is legally and technically a Motorola Moto G4.

Last but not least, the back of the phone says "Designed by Motorola" and its internals carry the Motorola logo as you can see in this picture.

So, to sum up, Lenovo only put their logo in the box and during the boot animation. And although the boot animation is not pretty like the previous one, if they keep the Motorola brand like they did here, showing in many places the full Motorola brand, the fans might not be so worried after all. But the press should have noticed this and they didn't. They need to do some research before naming a phone. It's correct name is Motorola Moto G4.

What's OnePlus 3 Memory Management issue and How to Fix it

Recently launched OnePlus 3 comes with 6GB of RAM and looks like OnePlus 3 can't even take the advantage of the 6GB RAM .

When C4Etech did a speedtest between OnePlus 3 and S7 edge . Though it was known that OnePlus 3 will win this because of 6GB RAM and Latest Processor , But Things were different .

OnePlus 3 has more than enough RAM to go around, but can't cope with keeping apps in memory, probably due to overly aggressive memory management and This was the reason OnePlus 3 lost against The Samsung Galaxy S7 edge .

According to OnePlus's CEO , OnePlus has decided to limit its RAM's potential in favor of long battery life . But then what's the use of 6GB RAM ?

Though Developers from XDA took it on their hand to fix that issue and provided a solution for the same .

If you wish for your OnePlus 3 to take better advantage of its RAM management, you can edit the build.prop value for “reading ro.sys.fw.bg_apps_limit=20” to 36 or 42 each showing similar gains in performance.

After applying this tweak the OnePlus 3 handles just under twice as many apps loaded into the memory.

iPhone 7 to be dual sim?

We don't talk about Apple that much, but the new iPhone rumors are exciting. The latest rumors come from Engadget, and they are very interesting, and confusing, because they claim the iPhone 7 might have some features that we thought they wouldn't.

The first is the 3.5mm jack. Apparently, the new leaked components by the site Rock Fix (Chinese repair shop) show the new iPhone will have a 3.5mm headphone jack, so maybe they changed their minds after so much critizism.

Another shocking rumor, is that the phone might come with a dual sim tray so it will support two nano-sim cards. Dual sim is beloved in Asia and Latin America so this could be true too.

The new iPhone will be revolutionary according to Apple's CEO. Should we believe him? Maybe he thinks dual sim is revolutionary...let's see how it goes.

The history of the RAZR: Part I

Sometimes I feel the RAZR deserves much more credit than it got. People have a horrible misconception that it's just an old flip phone, when it actually was a revolutionary device that changed the way people interact with their smartphones, care for customization and good designs. So I will release three separate articles about the history of this amazing phone.

The History of the MOTOROLA RAZR, part I

Founded in 1928, Motorola invented the car radio, the walkie-talkie, and the mobile phone. It was always the innovator. The first HDTV standard was shown by Motorola. All the moon landing radio transmissions and images were shown live to over 600 hundred million people back in 1969, thanks to Motorola, who transmitted Neil Armstrong’s memorable words (“It is one small step for a man but one giant leap for mankind”). Motorola not only created the flip phone and vibrator mode (StarTAC, 1996), but also created the most popular mobile phone of all time: the RAZR.

The RAZR. The phone that started the idea of buying a new device every year and becoming a fan of a product line. If it wasn’t for it, there wouldn’t be an iPhone, or a Galaxy, or even any smartphone today. Released back in July 2004, it was the best of the best. It was impossibly thin, at 13.9mm. The standard was 20mm or so. Razr also featured unique materials like glass and aluminum. And the fun fact over here is that Motorola never thought it would be a success! They actually thought it would sell under a million devices.

Boom! The Razr quickly became the phone everyone wanted. With over 100 million units sold within 28 months, the Razr became the fastest selling mobile of all time (until 2015). Motorola milked its success by releasing dozens of colour variations of it: Black, Silver, Pink, Purple, Blue, Gold, Red, Green, Lime, Miami Ink tatoos, just to name a few. Eveyone in the world would have a different version of the Razr, because of the different technologies countries offered. So apart from the V3, the V3i, V3c, V3m, V3r, V3s, V3im, V3x, V3xx, V3re, V3a, V3t, V3i D&G, MAXX V6, were born. From 2004 to 2007, Motorola kept releasing Razrs based in the V3 design. They were all the same phone, though, the RAZR. You can’t say Motorola released 26 versions of the Razr because there was only one Razr. Smartphone manufacturers release different RAM versions or 16/32/64GB variants, and that's what Motorola did for last decade's standards: colors and 2G/3G variants. And making a Razr for everyone worked very well.

The unpredictable and surprising success of this little flip phone made Motorola think they could release more exciting products in different form factors. And so they did. 2005 saw the release of the SLVR, the thinnest phone in the world at less than 11mm, and the PEBL, a fashion-centric mobile similar to a pebble. Although these phones sold very well, their sales were not even close to the ones of the Razr, which was the star of the show. 2005 also saw the release of the ROKR, the first true iPhone. It was not a success, though.

Steve Jobs wanted to install the itunes player inside a Razr and call it an iPhone. Motorola wanted the Razr just for themselves. The lack of collaboration between the companies resulted in the Rokr E1. Steve Jobs even boycotted the product by releasing the iPod Nano the same day and showing how the Rokr wasn’t a good music player. But that’s another story. By 2006 the Razr was already a legend, and spin-offs kept coming, making Motorola's market share skyrocket.

A stylish flip phone called KRZR, with advanced features and an improved OS, and also the RIZR, a slider version of the Razr with improved functionality. Las but not least, the moto Q, the first smartphone to sell over a million copies in the USA. Moto Q was the smartphone version of the RAZR. It came with Windows Mobile, it let you to install a wifi SD card, and it even allowed an extended battery.

But the star was still the original RAZR. 2006 ended really well for Moto, with over 65 million phones sold in the last quarter of the year, more Razrs sold than any other quarter, new colours for RIZR, KRZR and exciting new spin-offs about to come. What was  about to go wrong? The price of the Razr. The phone was already two years old by that time and Nokia, Samsung and LG were releasing improved copies of the Razr.

Motorola's component supplier was also lagging behind, so the whole product cycle had to be delayed for almost one year. All Motorola could do was lower the price of their phones in order to compete. It worked well at first, but by the beginning of 2007 the newly released RIZRs, KRZRs, Qs and ROKRs for that year were delayed almost six months.

Everyone was expecting these phones to be huge, given the fact that the last three years had been stunning for them. But 2007’s first six months, weren’t that great. They kept selling dozens of millions of RAZRs as always, yet sales from others were cooling off, and the competition was harder every single day. But they weren’t worried at all. In the meantime, they put all their efforts into building the successor of this famous phone, the RAZR2.

Will the RAZR2 succeed? We will find out in part II.
