Instagram wants to be more like Snapchat

Instagram is trying to look like Snapchat. Today, the company announced two new features that will change the way we interact with the application.

The first feature is "Live Video" as part of Instagram Stories. Stories was introduced some months ago, but it seems people wanted even more. Now you can do live videos and share it with all your followers. The video will disappear when the live video ends.

Instagram is also launching "Disappearing photos" for direct messaging. These photos will be deleted after the other users sees it and leaves that conversation, so it won't be there for much time. Overall, these two new features seem like a handy addition to Instagram.

It's Official: Nougat rolling out for Moto Z and Z Force, adds Daydream support

Few days back, multiple Moto Z Droid and Moto Z Force owners reported getting Android 7.0 Nougat update on their Smartphones and the same is now officially confirmed by Motorola.

According to Motorola, Android 7.0 Nougat has begin rolling out to Moto Z and Moto Z Force globally. Android 7.0 comes with hot features, but apart from that, Motorola has also added Google's newest VR "Daydream support" for Moto Z Devices.

With the upgrade to Android 7.0 Nougat, Moto Z and Moto Z Force will be compatible with Daydream, Google’s platform for high-quality, mobile VR. These are the first smartphones from another manufacturer to be recognized by Google as Daydream-ready devices - a distinction given to phones that have been certified for the Daydream platform and are built for VR with
high-resolution displays, ultra-smooth graphics and high-fidelity sensors for precise head tracking.

If you haven't got the update on your Moto Z/Z Force, keep checking because it might hit your doors very soon.

Goodbye HTC: mobile business to be sold

No one would have imagined this six years ago...or even earlier this year. Don't get us wrong, it's always sad to see companies that have done so much for the mobile industry in trouble and on the verge of bankruptcy.

According to new rumors from a Chinese source, HTC might put an end to its mobile division after years of huge losses each quarter. The HTC One was announced as the company's comeback, but it didn't reach expectations. The M8 and M9 weren't backed by a big marketing campaign so its sales were poor. All HTC Desire mid-rangers didn't reach expectations and the HTC 10 was a great phone that very little people bought.

The rumor suggests HTC's co-founder might make a deal on its mobile division earlier next year. Maybe this means the Pixel phones "by Google" (manufactured by HTC) didn't reach expectations? It's hard to tell.

But we do hope HTC can find a good home for that mobile division, provided these rumors are true. Perhaps a Chinese manufacturer could buy it just to get those brand rights since the HTC brand is well-known in Europe and the US. Or perhaps it's all just a rumor and we will still see HTC devices in the future.

Moto Z Droid gets Android Nougat update

Hello Nougat...errr... Hello Moto! The new Moto Z smartphones are getting Android 7.0 in the US right now. Today, some users reported they got the update so it should be pushed to all Moto Z Droid and Z Force Droid smartphones in the country.

Unfortunately, we can confirm that the update doesn't include the new boot animation Moto has been teasing these weeks, so it seems that only the GSM versions will be getting that cool power-on animation.

Android Nougat brings split-screen mode, fast app switching, Daydream VR support, brings new emojis, and a much improved battery life.

Though there is no clue on when the rest of the Moto Zs outside the US are getting the update, Motorola promised it would come this quarter, so expect it to arrive soon.

Future iPhones may be Made in the USA

We don't talk about politics at TechDroider, but this piece of news is quite interesting. Remember Trump talked about bringing jobs back to the USA during his campaign? He said he would force Apple -probably the largest American hardware company right now - into manufacturing their phones in the States. The re-shoring of production like Apple's iPhone manufacturing to the USA could open a wealth of business opportunities. If you're based in the Lone Star State, it could be the perfect time to learn about How to Get an LLC in Texas and start your own venture in the tech industry.

It seems Apple took his word seriously and they are now considering his idea, or at least that's what Nikkei reported. The report says Apple asked its assembler Foxconn to see if it's possible to produce iPhones in their home country. Foxconn does have one facility in Texas...Motorola used to assemble their Moto X phones there until 2014.

The source says, however, that manufacturing phones in the US would increase its cost. But doesn't Apple have a 200%+ profit margin on some of their phones? They could still have huge margins if the decide to go for the Made in the USA route.

Carrying that tag might increase sales from American consumers, but it could cause some trouble for Apple's earnings or take a lot of time, downgrade quality, and so on. We don't know how much President-elect Trump will change things up (or not), or if he will indeed push Apple to do this, so take this news with a grain of salt.

There are positive and negative aspects of moving part of your production to another place, but at the same time we know many people would consider a "Made in the USA" product over one made in China.
