Email for Your Business: Top Tips and Tricks

Email for Your Business: Top Tips and Tricks
There is no doubt that email is a big part of our daily life. Everyone uses email nowadays, whether it is for professional or personal purposes. Email is such an important tool that our Android phones and the services we can access on them are tied to our email address (or email addresses).

Thanks to smartphones, Android as a mobile operating system, and the tools and services available for this platform, you can now take emails to the next level even when you’re on the go. As a professional or a business owner, this is a huge plus.

Email for your business is a capable tool, especially when you know how to use it effectively. To help you gain more from the use of business emails, here are some of the top tips and tricks you can use.

Use Gmail’s Filters

The recently-updated Gmail app now comes with a lot of new tools. Before we get to other tools added in the last update, let’s take a closer look at filters and how they can really help you stay on top of your business-related tasks.

Using filters, you can actually direct emails into groups or folders, mark emails differently based on their content or other parameters, and even let certain emails go straight to archive so that your inbox remains clutter-free. You can start adding filters to your email addresses even when you’re not using Gmail’s email service; the Gmail app supports other email addresses too.

Speaking of the Gmail app, you can also fight spam and unwanted emails by using this app as your default email client. There are other mail apps available for Android, but you can never go wrong with Gmail.

New Tools at Your Disposal
As mentioned before, the Gmail app was recently updated. Google added a lot of new features that are handy for business users. At the top of that list, there’s the new Snooze functionality. This isn’t a new function in email apps (even Google’s Inbox had it already), but it is the first time the feature has been implemented on Gmail and the native Gmail app.

Another handy feature to use is email scheduling right within the Gmail app. You no longer have to rely on third-party apps just to be able to send emails at certain times. Scheduling allows you to write replies to the emails you receive at night – when distractions are at minimum – and have the replies sent in the morning.

Know the Etiquette
Just like other business communications, knowing how to use email properly is a huge plus when you are a business owner. Whether you are connecting with the customers, replying to emails from vendors, or trying to build a relationship with new clients or investors, sticking with email etiquette is a must.

Since we’re talking about emails on mobile devices, the first thing to remember is to keep it simple. The recipient is most likely reading the emails you send on a mobile device too and reading long emails on smartphones is never fun.

You also want to keep the subject line clear and concise. Make sure the recipient can get a good idea of what the email is all about from the subject line. After multiple replies, for example, cleaning up the subject line is a good idea.

Go for Marketing
There are so many other ways to use email, including for promoting your business. You can add a signature to the bottom of every email as a way tolet others know more about your business. When crafted correctly, the email signature you add to every email can be a powerful marketing tool nonetheless.

Another way to use email to boost your business is through newsletters. Once again, putting yourself in the shoes of recipients is how you craft newsletters that are incredibly compelling and effective. You can use newslettertemplates as a starting point. Test different templates and choose one that works well for mobile devices before customising your message further.

Moderation is the key here; it is the key with most email communications. You don’t want to bombard your recipients with emails and marketing materials, so avoid using big signatures that take up half of the smartphone screen. Oh, and make sure you limit your business newsletter’s frequency too.

Be the Recipient

The things that annoy you as an email user are most likely annoying for others too. Things like using SMS phrases that aren’t always easy to understand in emails and adding a signature to every reply you send (causing several of them to appear in the chain) must be avoided.

Fortunately, you now have more apps to help you use emails effectively. Don’t want to add a signature to replies? Adjust your email settings and you’re good to go. Want to keep your inbox clear from clutter? Use filters and folders to your advantage. You’ll be using emails like a pro before you know it.

Digital Kanban Boards Go Mobile: Is This the Future of Project Management?

Digital Kanban Boards Go Mobile: Is This the Future of Project Management?
Have you heard about the Kanban process? If you haven’t, then chances are that it is probably already implemented in one form or another in your workplace, you just didn’t know it was the Kanban process! If you are unfamiliar with the world of Kanban, essentially what this is, is a method of managing knowledge work and there is an emphasis on work being completed just in time, whilst not overloading team members. Kanban is a process that was first used in the mechanical engineering process, however, it is now used across all industries, and IT development is a sector has recently also adopted the Kanban method.

Visual Project Management

The Kanban process is fantastic for those who are visual thinkers. With this process, you will be able to see all your work laid out on the task board and you can see exactly what work you need to achieve in order to complete a task. The Kanban process is also great as it acknowledges that workers will be overwhelmed when there are too many tasks on their board and that keeping work pared down to the basics will ensure workers continue to stay motivated.

So, how do online Kanban boards work? Well, each time you have a task that needs to be completed, this should be written on its own specific card and it should then be placed on the Kanban board online. Kanban boards are great to organise work as you can categorise them according to their own criteria and you can then move them along your board to show how far along they are in the process and this will also give you a good idea of how much work still has to be completed for this task. It is also very satisfying to see the cards eventually end up in the done column at the very end of your board.

While Kanban was once restricted to just being a physical board, it has now moved online and into the digital world and there are now some amazing visual project management apps that can really benefit the efficiency of your workplace. These online digital boards and apps will help managers get the most out of their team and will allow you to complete projects smoothly, on time and to a high quality.

Are Online Kanban Boards the Future?

So, you may be wondering whyyou need an online kanban board and what an app can offer you that a physical board cannot. The biggest advantage with using Kanban boards online is that everything is happening in real time. This is especially important for those businesses who have staff and offices based across the world as anyone can make a change anywhere in the world and staff in all other offices will be able to see these changes in real time.

Another major reason why digital Kanban boards are far more popular nowadays than physical boards is simply due to the fact that they are portable. So, team members don’t have to be glued to a physical Kanban board and instead they can access and modify task boards while on the go. Many digital Kanban boards also have apps now too, which means team members can access all of their work tasks with just the touch of a button. These apps will give you a process for managing documents and it is far easier to provide other team members with the documents that they need to be able to work on the tasks that they have been assigned to.

What many people find great about online Kanban boards and Kanban apps is that they are a communal place too. A Kanban board quickly becomes the natural gathering hub where members of staff can discuss any issues that they may be facing with their assigned tasks, colleagues can help each other to solve problems and you can also learn from each other. Kanban boards show the accountable record of workflow and as everyone can see the discussion being held on here, this promotes transparency and a collaborative approach within the work place which is absolutely essential for effective project management.

Final Thoughts

As more and more businesses implement online digital Kanban boards into their workplace, it looks like we are only set to see a rise in this being used in future project management projects. If you feel like your current project management structure is not up to task, why not implement a Kanban digital board. This will allow staff to be held accountable for their own tasks, improveproductivity and you will be able to make your business, as a whole, more efficient.

New Nokia Smartphones announced for India, Pricing is too high for the Specs they offer

New Nokia Smartphones announced for India, Pricing is too high for the Specs they offer
HMD Global yesterday announced the Nokia 2.1, 3GB RAM model of Nokia 3.1 and the Nokia 5.1 for Indian markets. The devices will be available starting August 12th via Paytm Mall, Nokia's website, and Offline retail stores.

The Nokia 2.1 is priced at ₹6,999, Nokia 3.1 (2GB) at ₹10,499, (3GB) at ₹11,999, and Nokia 5.1 at ₹14,499. It seems that Nokia love adding ₹1000 - ₹2000 to their retail prices year-over-year.

Last year, the Nokia 3 was launched with a price of ₹9,499 for the base variant, while the Nokia 5 was ₹12,899. Such a price increase, with these specifications.

Nokia 3.1 has a 5.2-inch HD+ Display, MediaTek 6750 CPU with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, 2990mAh Battery. Nokia 5.1 (₹14,499) is powered by Helio P18, not even Helio P60 which can be found in Realme 1 (₹ 10,990 - 4/64GB), 16MP Single Rear Camera, 8MP front shooter, 2970mah Battery... uh

The Pricing seems too high for the Specs they offer. I personally would choose Motorola Moto G6, or Redmi Note 5 Pro over Nokia 5.1 for that price.

The device do looks hot in the video. It is having a display cutout with front facing stereo speakers and dual cameras. The back looks similar to the Pixel 2 XL, also there's no dual cameras.

One thing worth noticing is the Pixel 3 XL Interface. It runs on the latest Android 9.0, we have swipe gesture, new Settings, Notification panel, and more. It looks like the Pixel 3 XL will be coming with the rumored "Always on Display Wallpaper" feature. Just like Samsung AOD themes, the Pixel 3 XL is also having some sort of AOD theme with Pink shade.

Google recently launched the Next Iteration of its Android Operating System Android 9.0 Pie. The Tech Giant also pushed Android Pie source code to AOSP, helping the developers develop custom ROMs for their devices based on Pie.

Most of the developers already got working Android 9.0 Pie (AOSP or Lineage OS 16) build on their devices. AOSP based ROMs don’t come with Google services pre-installed, so you'll need to download and install Android Pie based Gapps on your device otherwise, you won’t get Google Play Services on Oreo based ROMs.

For now only Micro Gapps package is available for ARM64 bit processor. Before downloading you'll need to find your device's CPU type. You can install CPU Z that gives you a readout about your device's hardware.

This release has version PPR1.180610.009, PPR1.180610.011 for Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, PPR1.180610.009, PPR1.180610.010 for Pixel and Pixel XL.

Android 9.0 P is Ready for Pixel Smartphones according to Verizon

Android 9.0 P is Ready for Pixel Smartphones according to Verizon
According to Verizon's Software support page, Stable Android 9.0 P is ready for Google Pixel Smartphones with Software build PPR1.180610.009 and latest August 2018 Security Patch.

Verizon has also mentioned the changes and features you'll be getting along Android 9.0 P including new and simpler UX with gesture navigation, slices, and app actions.

"Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a new software update for your Google Pixel. Android 9.0 P improves your mobile experience with several new features and enhancements. This update also includes the latest Android security updates and bug fixes."

Slices

Slices are dynamic interactive templates that provide a rich UI experience when using Search and Assistant. For quick access to desired actions and apps, click on the Search bar and begin typing in the app name.

App Actions

App Actions help you get to your next task more quickly--playing your favorite Spotify playlist, for example--by predicting what you want to do next. App Actions are arranged throughout Android in places like the Launcher, Smart Text Selection, Play Store, Google Search and Google Assistant. With Android P, we're going beyond simply predicting the next app to predicting the next action you want to take. We call this feature App Actions.

Simple (UI/UX)

We're introducing a new system navigation. The design recognizes a trend towards smaller screen bezels—the borders between a screen and a phone's frame--and places an emphasis on gestures instead of hard to press buttons at the edge of the screen.
  • Swipe up a single clean home button to see an updated Overview, where you can resume recently used apps in a more glanceable view
  • Smart Text Selection works in Overview, so you can tap on some text and get an action to launch relevant apps
  • You can quickly tap one of 5 predicted apps, or continue to swipe up to get to All Apps
So... Stable Android 9.0 P Drops today?

New Features Expected for Smartphones in 2019

New Features Expected for Smartphones in 2019
Every year the big smartphone manufacturers announce their new flagship phones. Usually, this means an upgrade in software and hardware that add new functionality or improves on existing technology. With the smartphone market becoming more competitive all the time, manufacturers are constantly seeking better and more innovative components to tempt customers away from their competitors. Next year’s features are as widely speculated as they are every year, but here are a few that might be in the phones of 2019.

Triple-Sensor Cameras

When cameras were first introduced into smartphones, they were basic with few features and a grainy resolution. They were certainly no match for the digital cameras of the time. However, the cameras have continued to be upgraded and improved to the point where many people now use their mobiles for capturing images, instead of taking a separate camera. The latest additions to smartphones have been dual-lenses, one is wide-angle, while the other is long distance. Both images are then combined to produce a high-quality single image. Smartphones have become powerful enough to do all of this computational image trickery in an instant, which could lead to countless possibilities in the future. It is widely expected that the smartphones of 2019 will feature triple-sensors for the first time. The additional sensor could help to improve photos in low light conditions and make the images even crisper and looking more natural. It is also thought that there will continue to be improvements in image stabilization in photos and videos.

Privacy Protection

In 2018, new data protection laws came into force in Europe. GDPR, or the General Data Protection Regulation, was designed to hold businesses accountable to the personal information it keeps on their customers. It is also aimed at telling companies what they can and cannot do with customers’ data. The law mirrors a general feeling among people around the world about what information companies hold and what they do with it. Smartphone companies and software manufacturers are now increasingly aware that data is extremely important to consumers. Next year should see a lot more from companies on securing their products and restricting the amount of access advertisers have. Apple has already made strides in this direction, and the other smartphone companies are expected to follow.

Fully Waterproof Phones

Buying a smartphone or getting one on a contract is getting more expensive all the time. Some customers seek finance like those on this website to buy their new phones. With the newest versions of flagship phones now attracting a price tag of over $1000, there is a need from consumers for them to be tough. Many of the manufacturers have been developing their waterproof features which have led to many new phones having some level of protection. However, a fully waterproof phone is still one of the most requested features by customers, so this could be one of the new announcements seen next year. However, the engineering needed to create speakers and charging ports that can be totally waterproof is hard. Could it mean the end of the charging port in favor of wireless-onlycharging?

5G And Faster Internet

It is widely thought that the chip fabricators and phone manufacturers are getting their phone ready next year to include 5G technology. One of the biggest modem companies Qualcomm has said that they have a large number of consumer-level chips available for the smartphone sector. The emergence of 5G means a substantial upgrade on the download speeds over 4G, with potential speeds up to one thousand times faster. It means you will be able to download your favorite movie or box set in seconds, and it will make streaming on mobiles a better experience. However, although smartphones will be rolling 5G out from 2019, the network upgrades needed to deal with the increased speed won’t be widely available until around 2020.

Augmented Reality

Otherwise known as AR, augmented reality has been getting better as smartphones get faster and more powerful. New advances in facial recognition software have also made it possible for game creators to find new ways to use AR in their games. Smartphone makers Samsung and Apple have already developed emojis that can use your face and voice to become interactive. Next year should see this technology being used for more interaction and security.

Under-Screen Sensors

As screen sizes have increased and bezels have become thinner, there has been the inevitable question of where to put the front-facing camera and biometric sensor. Some companies like Apple, have decided to go for the ‘notch’ approach which sees a near bezel-free screen except for a small notch for the camera and earphone vent. Others have chosen to place biometricfingerprint sensors on the back of the phone and place the camera at the bottom of the screen. These solutions are not ideal, so smartphone makers have been working on cameras and fingerprint sensors that are integrated into the screen itself. There have already been prototypes made that have seen positive feedback, so it doesn’t seem long before we will see the first smartphone with this new technology.

Tougher Screens

Along with waterproofing, another request that is often heard from customers is stronger screens. It seems that no matter how strong the manufacturers claim their screens are, there are still many incidents of cracking reported. Most smartphone makers use Gorilla Glass on their phones which is designed to be tough and durable. However, some companies like Apple have been testing stronger materials like sapphire displays. These displays are much tougher and scratch resistant, but, they are difficult to manufacture in large quantities. They are currently mostly used in luxury watches, although if the process can be improved, it could be coming to smartphones soon.

The improvements and development of smartphones are staggering, and it seems that there are still many avenues manufacturers have yet to explore. As long as customers ask for improvements, they will continue to push the envelope in pursuit of the perfect all-round phone.
